Cleaning Up our Beaches

Sardinia Bay Beach Cleanup

The Port Elizabeth branch of Polyoak Packaging joined forces with Bushy Park Farm Dairy along with many other volunteers to do the Sardinia Bay Clean Up.

Approximately 100 volunteers from local schools, the scout group, the DA and residents filled and collected roughly 1200 plastic bags with general waste, about 60 bags with Pet bottles only and quite a few lobster and other plastic crates. The pet bottles and crate plastic were collected by Khanyi hygiene services for recycling. The balance went to the Arlington landfill site. A cattle truck was filled twice, (roughly 40m3) and about 700kg airlifted with the chopper - almost 2.5 tons of waste was removed from a 5km stretch of coast.

Helicopter Charter and Training and Polyoak Packaging arranged the choppers to lift the waste. These were particularly helpful in the rocky areas where there was no access from the beach.
